Polish basketball player new Tissot Ambassador

Known as the Polish Hammer, Poland’s number one basketball player, Marcin Gortat, today signed to become a Tissot international ambassador. Gortat is the only Pole currently playing in the NBA (National Basketball Association) and proudly wears the number 13 for the Polish national team, the Orlando Magic. With a height of 2.13 metres (6 feet 11 inches), Poland’s most recognizable athlete looks set to take the prestigious Tissot ambassador team literally to new heights.
Perfect timing and perfect match.

Tissot chose the context of EuroBasket 2009 to announce its partnership with Marcin Gortat. This occasion is doubly appropriate due to the tournament's Polish location and its significance as the first major major championship for which Tissot carried out all timekeeping and data handling. The active Tissot involvement in the world of basketball serves to express the brand's dynamic nature, clearly underlining this with dedication to precision and performance. The style and character of the new ambassador personify this perfect match. At the contract signing, François Thiébaud, Tissot President commented, "In Marcin Gortat we have someone to look up to - in terms of stature and character! We are inspired by both his talent as a basketball player, as well as his prominent sense of social responsibility. This partnership will be instrumental in spreading that inspiration all over the world." Marcin Gortat added his own words on the meaning of the new partnership, "Tissot is a brand, which has always attracted my attention. In my game I'm striving for perfection, to the level that Tissot watches already represent."

Partnership based on performance and shared values
Marcin Gortat is the son of an Olympic medallist boxer and a Polish national volleyball champion so, like Tissot, he has sport in his DNA. He began his sporting career in football, playing for ŁKS Łódź. A switch to basketball took Gortat on an extremely successful track and he was selected to play for RheinEnergie Cologne, in Germany's Basketball Bundesliga, winners of the 2006 domestic championship. In November 2007, Gortat was assigned to play with the Anaheim Arsenal in the NBA Development League. He was recalled from the D-League shortly afterwards and played his first NBA game on 1 March 2008 against the New York Knicks. As of the end of the 2007-08 season, Gortat had appeared in 14 NBA games for the Orlando Magic, including eight playoff appearances, and goes down in basketball history as the first Polish-born player ever to compete in NBA finals. Never forgetting his roots, Gortat organizes sports camps for children in Poland, promoting sport as a way of life and valuable means of self-development. Tissot has also established itself with a leading role in the world of basketball after signing a four-year global partnership contract with FIBA (International Basketball Federation) earlier this year. And with over 450 million people having watched FIBA events on television in 2008, popularity appears to be another ingredient for shared future success.

Biffle's Team Captures Tissot Pit Crew Award in Michigan

Biffle's Team Captures Tissot Pit Crew Award in Michigan

With third win, No. 16 crew is tied for first in season-long Tissot competition

For the third time this season, Greg Biffle's No. 16 crew took top honors in the Tissot Pit Road Precision Award by winning the weekly competition in Sunday's LifeLock 400 Sprint Cup race (June 14) at Michigan International Speedway.

The win not only paid Biffle's crew $5,000, but it also lifted the No. 16 team to a tie for first in the Tissot standings. Jeff Gordon's No. 24 crew also has three wins.

The crew with the most Tissot wins at the completion of the 36-race schedule will receive a $100,000 bonus plus Tissot Watches for the crew and driver.

The win for the No. 16 crew at Michigan came as a result of Biffle's 3M Ford fusion spending the least amount of time on pit road (161.317 seconds) during the 400-mile race. The crew's performance helped Biffle to a fifth-place finish.

The No. 16 crew won despite the absence of its regular rear-tire carrier -- Kevin McDowell, who stayed back in North Carolina with his wife due to the pending birth of the couple's first child. Garrett Redding filled in for McDowell.

"This Tissot win was earned by good pit stops, period," said Rodney Fetters, jackman for the No. 16 crew. "The 3M team was on the same pit-road cycle as all the leaders and they got it done by defending our rectangle. In all my years of Cup racing, I have never seen a team that pulls together more than this team."

Biffle's over-the-wall crew at Michigan consisted of: Todd Zeigler front-tire changer), Colin Pasi front-tire carrier), Kyle Power (rear-tire changer), Garrett Redding (rear-tire carrier), Rodney Fetters jackman), Billy Manchester (gasman),Ryan Dextraze catch can) and Chris Elliott windshield). The team's crew chief is Greg Erwin and the pit crew coach is Andy Ward.

Tissot has been the official watch and timekeeper of NASCAR since 2006. The company is also the official timekeeper for a number of other sports, including the MotoGP World Championship, the Ice Hockey World Championship and the Cycling World Championship.

All about Tissot and the T-Touch

Tissot is a Swiss watchmaker company founded in 1853. Tissot has over 150 years of innovation in Swiss watch-making tradition, which have made it a high-quality brand of watches, often associated with prestige and used as a status-symbol. The Tissot-company was the first to make a watch out of plastic, mother of pearl, wood (the Wood watch) and stone (the Rock watch). Tissot has become known in recent years for its tactile, or "T-Touch," technology; several new watches have touch-sensitive sapphire faces and include compasses, barometers, altimeters and thermometers. T-Touch watches have been recently featured in the movies Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Based in Le Locle, Switzerland and present in more than 150 countries around the world, Tissot has been, since 1985, a member of the The Swatch Group Ltd., the largest watch producer and distributor in the world. Watch Planet has an extensive range of Tissot men's watches and Tissot ladies watches all at fantastic prices.
