Polish basketball player new Tissot Ambassador
Perfect timing and perfect match.
Tissot chose the context of EuroBasket 2009 to announce its partnership with Marcin Gortat. This occasion is doubly appropriate due to the tournament's Polish location and its significance as the first major major championship for which Tissot carried out all timekeeping and data handling. The active Tissot involvement in the world of basketball serves to express the brand's dynamic nature, clearly underlining this with dedication to precision and performance. The style and character of the new ambassador personify this perfect match. At the contract signing, François Thiébaud, Tissot President commented, "In Marcin Gortat we have someone to look up to - in terms of stature and character! We are inspired by both his talent as a basketball player, as well as his prominent sense of social responsibility. This partnership will be instrumental in spreading that inspiration all over the world." Marcin Gortat added his own words on the meaning of the new partnership, "Tissot is a brand, which has always attracted my attention. In my game I'm striving for perfection, to the level that Tissot watches already represent."
Partnership based on performance and shared values
Marcin Gortat is the son of an Olympic medallist boxer and a Polish national volleyball champion so, like Tissot, he has sport in his DNA. He began his sporting career in football, playing for ŁKS Łódź. A switch to basketball took Gortat on an extremely successful track and he was selected to play for RheinEnergie Cologne, in Germany's Basketball Bundesliga, winners of the 2006 domestic championship. In November 2007, Gortat was assigned to play with the Anaheim Arsenal in the NBA Development League. He was recalled from the D-League shortly afterwards and played his first NBA game on 1 March 2008 against the New York Knicks. As of the end of the 2007-08 season, Gortat had appeared in 14 NBA games for the Orlando Magic, including eight playoff appearances, and goes down in basketball history as the first Polish-born player ever to compete in NBA finals. Never forgetting his roots, Gortat organizes sports camps for children in Poland, promoting sport as a way of life and valuable means of self-development. Tissot has also established itself with a leading role in the world of basketball after signing a four-year global partnership contract with FIBA (International Basketball Federation) earlier this year. And with over 450 million people having watched FIBA events on television in 2008, popularity appears to be another ingredient for shared future success.
